PETER NELSON KING, Esq. Mr. King ("Peter") is a well-respected, civil lawyer.in the Los Angeles/Southern California legal community. In a more than 30 year legal career, he's handled many complex cases; including several class-action and high-profile suits as chief trial/litigation counsel with the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office. He’s also served as General Counsel for the Port of Los Angeles and many other LA City Departments in transactional and regulatory matters during his career in that Office. As senior municipal counsel, he’s expertly guided city officials – i.e. the LA Mayor’s Office, the City Council, City commissions, boards and department heads -on a myriad of legal issues and transactions. He’s also briefed and argued appeals before the California Court of Appeal.

Recently Peter served as a city attorney and risk manager for the City of Palm Springs, CA. As with Los Angeles, he handled a wide variety of municipal issues – many of these matters during emergency and crisis situations.

In addition to his public sector career, Peter has maintained an active private practice serving businesses throughout Southern California. His clients have sought out his counsel on variety of business concerns involving, among others, risk/liability management, contract disputes/contract administration, corporate governance, oversight of corporate legal services, state and federal environmental regulations, land use permits/code enforcement issues, and real estate development/entitlements.

Peter graduated from the University of Washington in Seattle, WA with a Baccalaureate Degree in International Trade and Transportation from the UW's highly-esteemed Geography Department (with substantial advanced coursework in the Foster School of Business and Dept. of Political Science).

He received his Juris Doctorate from Willamette University College of Law in Salem, OR. In addition, he obtained a specialized Certificate in Dispute Resolution from Willamette’s nationally-recognized Center for Alternative Dispute Resolution.

During his early years as a city prosecutor and, thereafter, as a civil attorney in Los Angeles, Peter attended Pepperdine University’s, Executive MBA Program (Graziadio Business School). And he’s also completed advanced coursework at the University of California, Los Angeles, Certificate Programs in Business and Real Estate Studies.
In his current legal practice, Peter represents select clients in the snow sports and hospitality industry as well as homeowner associations and nonprofit community groups. In addition, he serves as an adjunct instructor/professor at the University of California, Riverside and Crafton Hills College, Yucaipa, CA.
Peter welcomes new corporate clients looking to reorganize legal departments, control/reduce current legal costs/expenses, and businesses that need solutions and strategies to proactively handle specific legal and business concerns under short-term agreements with him.
Peter is a licensed member of the State Bar of California. In addition he is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeal, and the Southern and Central federal District Courts in California. He holds a California Real Estate Broker’s license. And, in years past, he served as a Judge Pro Tem for the Los Angeles Superior Court.

Personal: Most of Peter's clients and colleagues have become life-long friends. He's grateful for these friends and his family. Peter is an avid and accomplished alpine skier, sailor, hiker, and photographer. He aspires to excellence in all pursuits. As a mentor/educator to many young professionals over the years, he hopes to inspire others to pursue excellence, too. In particular he is proud of his work leading community groups, and his leadership and team-work on several educational foundations and corporate boards. He supports science-based environment causes as wells as individuals, businesses, and organizations with a strong commitment to community and philanthropy. Peter has traveled extensively and, as lifelong learner, he is a student of history and enjoys reading contemporary nonfiction, podcasts, visiting obscure museums and galleries, and watching classic movies with his wife, Sue, an accomplished graphic arts designer/entrepreneur.
